IMPORTANT TRAVEL NOTES — BHUTAN
A Journey Designed for Comfort, Not for Rushing
Bhutan is a Himalayan destination where the beauty lies in its mountains, valleys, forests, spirituality and unhurried way of life. Our ANVAYA journeys are specially designed for travellers aged 50+, with a comfortable pace, carefully selected accommodation and sufficient time to enjoy each destination without unnecessary rushing. However, Bhutan is a mountainous country and certain travel conditions are naturally different from those experienced in major metropolitan destinations.
FLIGHTS TO BHUTAN — PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING
- Paro International Airport is located in a Himalayan valley and flight operations are particularly dependent on weather and operational conditions. Flight timings are therefore subject to change, delay, diversion or cancellation due to weather, operational requirements, air-traffic conditions or other circumstances beyond the control of the airline or tour operator. Drukair itself states that schedules are not guaranteed because of the operational challenges and weather dependency of Paro Airport.
- Accordingly, flight timings should not be considered a guaranteed part of the itinerary. We strongly recommend that guests avoid making tight onward flight, train or other travel connections immediately after their Bhutan journey.
- Where a flight is delayed, rescheduled, diverted or cancelled, ANVAYA / the tour operator will assist the group to the best possible extent, but any resulting additional accommodation, meals, transportation, rebooking or other expenses will be handled according to the applicable airline conditions and the guest’s travel-insurance coverage.
- Guests should therefore consider comprehensive travel insurance covering trip interruption, flight delay/cancellation, medical emergencies and evacuation, wherever available.
WEATHER & MOUNTAIN ROAD CONDITIONS
- Bhutan’s weather can change quickly, particularly in the mountains. Rain, fog, snowfall, landslides, road maintenance, traffic restrictions or other natural conditions may occasionally affect driving times and sightseeing plans.
- The itinerary should therefore be considered flexible rather than rigid. If required for safety or operational reasons, the local team may alter the sightseeing sequence, change the route, replace an activity or modify the day’s programme.
- Our priority will always be guest safety, comfort and a smooth overall experience, rather than completing every activity exactly in the originally planned sequence.
ABOUT 5★ & LUXURY HOTELS IN BHUTAN
- ANVAYA will endeavour to provide 5★ or the best available luxury accommodation in each destination, subject to availability.
- Guests should kindly understand that the meaning and scale of a luxury hotel in Bhutan may differ from that of a luxury hotel in major Indian metropolitan cities or developed international destinations.
- In smaller Himalayan towns, luxury properties may offer a more intimate, nature-oriented and locally inspired experience, while facilities such as room size, elevators, heating/cooling systems, restaurants, spa facilities, Wi-Fi, bathrooms, medical support and other infrastructure may be more limited than comparable city hotels.
- The hotel category should therefore be understood in the context of the destination and local hospitality standards, and not as a direct comparison with luxury hotels in Delhi, Mumbai, Singapore, Dubai, Europe or other highly developed destinations.
- Where a particular luxury hotel is unavailable, ANVAYA reserves the right to provide a comparable premium/luxury property of the best available standard in that destination.
ROAD JOURNEYS & SENIOR-CITIZEN COMFORT
- Bhutan’s roads are mountainous and winding. Even relatively short distances may require considerably more travel time than the same distance on a highway or city road.
- For our 50+ guests, we recommend travelling with patience and allowing additional time for scenic stops, refreshments and comfort breaks.
- Where operationally possible, our team will plan regular comfort stops and avoid unnecessary rushing.
- Guests who experience motion sickness are advised to carry their preferred medication and inform the tour manager in advance.
HEALTH & PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
- Bhutan involves travel through mountainous terrain and, depending on the itinerary, exposure to higher elevations. Guests should assess their personal fitness and consult their doctor before travel if they have any medical condition that could be affected by altitude, long road journeys or changes in temperature.
- Guests should carry their regular prescription medicines in sufficient quantity, preferably in their hand luggage, together with prescriptions or relevant medical information.
- ANVAYA and its local partners will assist in arranging medical attention in the event of an emergency; however, Bhutan has a smaller medical infrastructure than major metropolitan cities, and specialist treatment or evacuation may require additional travel.
BAGGAGE & PERSONAL BELONGINGS
- Guests are advised to travel light and keep essential medication, documents, valuables and one change of clothing in their cabin baggage.
- Airline baggage allowances and restrictions are subject to the operating airline’s current conditions. Drukair currently publishes a 20 kg checked-baggage allowance for paying passengers and a 5 kg cabin-baggage allowance, subject to its stated conditions. Guests should always follow the allowance shown on their confirmed ticket.
ITINERARY FLEXIBILITY
- The itinerary provided by ANVAYA represents the planned programme, not a guarantee that every activity will operate at a particular time or in a particular sequence.
- Sightseeing, road routes, hotel arrangements and activities may be modified because of weather, road conditions, local regulations, flight disruptions, attraction closures, safety considerations or other circumstances beyond our control.
- Where a planned experience cannot be operated, ANVAYA/local partners will endeavour to provide a reasonable alternative of comparable nature, wherever practical.
IMPORTANT BOOKING CONDITION
- By confirming the tour, guests acknowledge that Bhutan is a mountain destination with weather-sensitive flights, winding roads and destination-specific infrastructure.
- Guests also acknowledge that travel schedules, sightseeing sequences and accommodation may occasionally need to be modified for operational, weather, safety or other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of ANVAYA or its local partners.
- Such changes, when reasonably required, shall not automatically constitute a deficiency in the tour or entitle the guest to compensation, particularly where the change arises from weather, airline operations, road conditions, government restrictions, natural events or other circumstances beyond the reasonable control of the tour operator.
- Any refunds, rebooking, compensation or additional costs arising from airline disruption shall be governed by the airline’s applicable terms and conditions and the guest’s travel-insurance policy. Drukair’s published conditions specifically state that flight schedules are not guaranteed and provide for carrier action in cases of weather disruption, including rerouting or refund according to its applicable conditions.
ANVAYA’S COMMITMENT
Our promise is simple:
- We cannot control the mountains, the weather or the airlines.
- But we can control how thoughtfully we plan your journey.
- ANVAYA will endeavour to provide comfortable pacing, carefully selected accommodation, experienced local assistance, appropriate transportation, regular communication and practical support throughout the journey.
- For our 50+ travellers, the objective is not to see Bhutan in a hurry.
- It is to experience Bhutan beautifully.
